School alumna was elected as an academician of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS)

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) published the list of newly-elected academicians on April 17, 2019. Twelve Chinese were elected, including our schoolfellows Chen Xionghong.  Another Wuhan University Alumnus Cheng Yifan was also elected.


 

Chen Xiaohong was elected to the field of economics. She is currently a professor of economics at Yale University. Chen graduated from Wuhan University’s School of Mathematics with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1986, and then went on to acquire her Doctoral Degree from the University of California, San Diego in 1993. She joined the University of Chicago’s Department of Economics and worked as an assistant professor in 1993. In 2007 she joined Yale University as a Professor of Economics.

It is reported that the AAAS is one of the oldest academician institutions and the most esteemed honorary organizations in the United States. It is also an academic center for independent policy research.
